Edustructures Technology Chosen to Power the First Statewide SIF Implementation
State of Idaho chooses Edustructures SIFWorks® Enterprise ZIS as Centerpiece
of Secure, Seamless Interaction, and Standards-based Data Sharing Among Software
Applications
|
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - June 26, 2004 - Edustructures LLC today announced that the
Idaho Student Information Management System (ISIMS) project will be using
Edustructures technology for its groundbreaking, SIF-based statewide
integration solution.
| | |
|
ISIMS is a joint effort led by the Idaho Department of Education and the J.A.
and Kathryn Albertson Foundation to provide a common core of educational software
to users across all schools and districts, statewide. ISIMS consists of 4 core
applications, integrated via SIFWorks, which will be offered to administrators,
educators including teachers, students and parents through a portal product.
| | |
|
"With ISIMS, the customer wanted to push the envelope of what has been accomplished
with SIF by schools and districts. They needed a solution that would scale to a
state level integration project," notes Steve Curtis, Chief Operations Officer of
Edustructures. "We accepted the challenge to help Idaho and its technology partners
pioneer a statewide SIF infrastructure. We knew our SIFWorks® Enterprise ZIS
could handle the data flow and management needs of a statewide implementation.
Developing several of the other vendors' SIF Agents with our Agent Developer Kit,
the ADK®, meant that we could deliver a complete solution quickly enough to
meet the aggressive schedule set by the project team."
| | |
|
The initial implementation includes 30 districts, 117 schools and over 30,000
students. Upcoming implementation phases of the ISIMS project will include all 114
districts, 780 schools and 246,000 students in Idaho. Overall, the hardware,
communications and software integration needs make ISIMS one of the most ambitious
SIF implementations to date.

About ISIMS
|
The ISIMS Project creates a statewide, student-information management system
designed to provide new resources for parents, teachers, students, and all stakeholders
of education in Idaho. The project will build a centralized, uniform system that
includes a host of web-based resources and tools for education stakeholders:
Teachers will take advantage of web-available curriculum and lesson plans,
class assessment and progress reports, standards-based report cards, and tools
for communicating with parents on homework, attendance, and progress toward
student goals. Parents and students benefit from convenient access to progress
reports, homework assignments, attendance records, and progress toward graduation
requirements. Schools and school districts benefit from aggregated student data
on state and local tests, state and national comparison data, school, district
and program performance data. The public and policymakers will be able to review
aggregated student achievement information, state and national comparison data,
and district and state report cards. The goal of ISIMS is to help Idaho by
providing a consistent, statewide system for improving learning and reporting.
| | |
|
The ISIMS Project is a partnership of the Idaho Governor and Legislature, Idaho
State Board of Education, Idaho State Department of Education, J.A. and Kathryn
Albertson Foundation and all school districts in Idaho.
